Tho Stratford-Ongaruo railway figured prominently in the discussion on the railway construction votes in tho House on Thursday ovoning. Mr. ' Jennings strongly urged that construction from the Ongarue end should be commenced. Tho lino would go through land owned by tho Crown, which was already settled. Tho Hon. B. M'Kcnzie said it was not proposed to start at that end ithis year. Tho present vote would cany. tho lino to withing 1J to 2 miles of YPhangamomona. Ho would haTO no objection to starting; at the Ongaruo end as soon-as it could bo dono. If tho line wcro prosecuted from both ends it would mean two staffs nnd two lots of plant. When the lino got to Whangamomontt it would be desirablo to start at both ends. : ~-.,■
