LONG DISTANCE FARES.
TO BE RAISED NEXT MONTH. A Gazette; supplement;issued yesterday. sets out ■ alterations to. the scalo of railway fares, to take effect on January; -9. v Tho, passenger fares will be'as at present, ljd. por mile fist class, and Id. per mile second class for ordinary tickets, with one penny, added to each, fare,: but the reductions now inado on long distances will ; be discontinued. The tourist extension tickets available over the lines of both islands will. be raised from .£8 to <£10,. but tho period: for which they may bo used will be extended -from six itfeeks to seven weeks. . The tourist tickets for the lines of either island exclusively for four weeks, will bo .increased , from JES to '■JtS.- Tickots for intermediate stations between Wellington and Palmorston,North will not be available for travel by the'north or southbound.'Main,'Trunk'express trains.
