Lord Kitchoner arrived by a Dutch steamer from the Dutch Indies, and was welcomed by Major-General Hoad, Australian commandaut. " '• Lord Kitchener then boarded the cruiser Encounter, which iired a salutb of 19 guns. Later he landed and was officially welcomed at the Town Hall. The Encounter, will sail for Thursday Island to-day. Lord Kitchener is in excellent health. He is described as a blue-eyed, somewhat slight mild-looking gentleman, instead of • the swarthy fiercc-eycd man of gigantic'mould of -popular impression.
