LOST HOMES. GREAT DESTRUCTION OP CROPS. (Sy TeleffraDh-Preoa 'Association-Copyright.) Sydney, December 22. There has been great destruction by bush fires in the Eiverina district. The losses include much bagged wheat, standing crops, and stock. Melbourne, December 22. A severe heat wave prevails. There are bush fires in all directions. At Donald (175 miles north-west of Melbourne) many acres of standing crops and 20,000 bags of wheat were burned. The total damage is estimated at At Cobram, on tie Murray, 1600 bags ol wheat and 60 acres of barley were destroyed. At Charlton, on the Avoca, an old man named Steward entered a burning house to secure valuables, and was burned to death. Eoports from other districts show that immense areas of grass and many crops have been destroyed. ■A number of settlers havo lost their homes.
