PRIZE-GIVING.

NORTHLAND STATE SCHOOL. ■ "break-up" concert held in the' Northland School lost week wus a succossful event, iiio various items—including physical and fancy drills, songs, comio and sentimental, recitations, , and pianoforte solos—were . contributed entirely by the pupils of tho school, and the performance reflected credit upon both pupils and teachers,. who carried out the concert without any outside assistance of any kind.. At tho conclusion of the concert programme, tho chairman of tlie School Committee (Mr. A. C. Pearco) mado a short speech complimenting those iviio had worked so ener-getically-.for tho-success of the entertainment. Ur ?- Pearce then presented the prizos (of which there were over 100, including a gold medal for. shooting), and the proceedings terminated with tho National Anthem. The school has'had a very successful year. Thanks to the. co-operation'of paronts, teachers, and ochool Committee, tho school now .'possesses an up-to-dajxs miniature rifle range (the first of the kind to be established in connection with any school in the Dominion), and a school .garden, where elementary agriculture is taught: practically as well as theoretically. The annual prize-giving at Ohariu is a great occasion in tho district, and on Fridayl aftet--' noon .the''grown-up folk turned out in large numbers to the largo Ohariu Hall, where children and parents 'were entertained, during the afternoon. Sir. Bcech, tho chairman of the committee, presided, and Mrs. J. P. Luke, in the .absence of Ur. Luke, presented the prizes,..'every 'child- in the school receiving one. Afterwards, .tea was served,- and tho children played games.'
