During the seddon the ladies' and men's.'dubs combined and gave. an enjoyable dance in the concert chamber of tho Town Hall at which abont 135 couples were present.- The evening was a -great success in 'every wiy. The season was concluded with a combined social evening, at which sixty players; and ''■■; their friends were present. . The prizes presented i by-,well-wishers of the clubs to the best player in each team were presented at Mr. Irwin's j farawell social to: Ladies' A team, Miss -M O'KeiH; ladies' B team, Miss: Grace Flaws; men's junior team, Mr. W. J. Wilkie; men's I third team, Mr. Schulenburg. The Gregg Shorthand Association met during tho winter I evenings and thanks were due to those who I helped to make the gatherings a success. A matter .that caused much regret among memI bers of. the instituto this year: was the retiroment of Mr. Irwin (principal of the institute) whoroturned to Christchurch at the end of Augnst. .
