HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the. Wellington I Harbour Board was held yesterday,' and' lasted nearly four : hours, during tho most of. which timo tho board was in committee. Mr. C. E. Daniell presided in lieu of tho chairman, Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., to whom leave of absence was granted. Other members ipresent were: Tho Hon. T. K. Macdonald, M.L.C., Messrs. F. H. Frnscr, C. N. Jones, R. Fletcher, J. W. M'Ewan,. M. Cohen, J. G. Harkness,. and F. G'. Bolton. -".... Credit balances at the bank were reported as follow:—Current account, .£16,415.195. Gd.; imprest account, .£825 19s. 3d.; on fixed deposit, i£70,000. The following payments were approved:—Accounts and' wages, ,'.£16,098 12s. Bd.; progress payments, on contracts, .£2041 Gs. 4d.; salaries for December, . J7C9 'Bs. Gd.; total, .£18,909 7s. Cd. : ' Tho chairman reported:—"That tho Wellington Harbour Board and Corporation Empowering Act, 1898, Amendment Bill has been read a second timo in. tho House of Representatives and referred to a solectcommittee, and that the Bill is now being considered; by tho select committee. •„ ,' "That tho, new wool storo,_on tho Waterloo Quay Reclamation, known as King's Wharf Store, No. 3, has been completed, and has been in use sinco December . G. Tho wool-presses and hoisting gear are,working well. Tho double railway sidings allow increased dispatch." . In 'reply, to a question, tho engineer (Mr. Marchbanks). stated that tho new shed had cost '.£6700. The estimate was £0500, but some extra work had been done, including the erection of verandahs. The Wharves .and Accounts Committee recommended the board to call for tenders, to close in March, 1910, for '303 tons cut and punched steel hoops, and six. tons of malleablo cast iron, studs, for-delivery in September and November, 1910; and that no alteration in tho present basis of allowance' for wharfago on '.'checked" luggage be made. Tho following motion was roported from committee of the whole, and confirmed:—"That tenders have been, received for contract No. 153, J wool- store rebuilding, and that the lowest tender, if in. order,-be accepted; also that the seal he affixed to; acceptance."
