HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the' Hutt , Borongli Council was held last evening, :when there were present:—Tho Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bnnny), Councillors Macaskill, Barlow; Hayes, Kempthorne, Mowbray, Anson, Clere, and Baldwin. Arresolutiou was'adopted m'akinK a.levy of l-10d. in the pound as.security for interest on the , loan of .£IO,OOO recently authorised. ■ ; ."After tho special meeting tho ordinary meeting of the council was held. ''■■Mγ.- A. S. Cribb \vrote asking- to have a shilling slot meter, in his premises replaced by an ordinary meter. • Ho complained- that he was inconvenienced 'by.."the present slot machine.—Consideration'.of the matter was deferred to next meeting. ..... -.• ;■■ . ; , .Mr. John T. v Scott wrote grantine permission for the., council: to lay. a water , main through his-section. No. 80 Central Terrace to the'AJicetown septic tank,.on■ condition that his tenant was paid-■■'J!l- for the damage to gaiden,. plants, etc. ;-. ' ..." ' " :A complaint , was received from Mr. E. D. Bell regarding an. alleged encroachment on the Wainui Hill Ebad by a shed erected thereon by Messrs. Keir.—The, clerk reported that Messrs. Kcir had been given 48 hours' notice to remove the" shed referred to. ■■■■■. ■ '.- ; , Beganding the , d£52,000 loan ■ inquiry, : the Auditor-General wrote stating that as the inqiriry was'not one, of, ; the purposes for which the loan .was raised,'the, cost: of same could not; bo charged .to the loan- account, but must bo charged to the district fund account.—The council' took a view different from i this, and decided to ■'write'to' tho Auditor-General explaining the''matter.'.- ..'.". . Tho Department of "Publio Health forwarded a:copy of Dr. M'Lanrin's analysis'of a sample of water taken from premises at, the corner of Waiwetu Eoad and , Eossiter Avenue, and also referred ,to a report by Dr. MakgiU, Vacterio-logist,-that the sample of water examined by him bacteriologically also proved to.be very good,; the number of organisms grown at normal -teiiiperature being only 160"< per' cubic cenfimetre,, ; while . n0... growth peenrjed at a temperature of: 35 degrees C, nor was there any trace l of b.coli. /...' . ■ . •". in accordance with a resolution passed recently by. ; the council, Mr.. Laing-Measpni consulting engineer, forwarded ~a ; report for a storm-watei'. drainage, scheme for the borough. It was decided that copies of Mr. LaingMeasoii's report,_ .together. with-thorreport , of tko borough, engineer on the same subject, bo (undtd to councillors....,,. ~ ' ' The engineer reported in regard' to the eas and vaiov cervices that,'iß9 house connections had been made with the water mains to date. ''I .would," said the engineer, "draw the council's attention to the fact that while we have an abundant supply of .water, still I find, that certain consumers are allowing their garden hose to run all night, this being a breach, of the'by-laws': I. would suggest that the council cause an advertisement to bo put in the paper calling attention to the by-law, dealing with this matter.".. The: ongineer. stated, in , regard to this matter that for the past week 1,002,688 gallons had 283,006 being used in 45 hours.—The council decided to aavortise.as suggested.. . ....: -, ' ■ . -: ■ . liegarding drainage," the'ioport. slated. that tho power-house on: the western side was completed, with the exception lot cue plastennp. The connecting link between Te Momi-and Herbert Street was well in hand; and .only 'a few chains remained .to be put in to complete:the junction of TVakefield Street .and Main Hutt Road. :'■' Repairs had been.carried out in tho-fbllow-ing . streets:—Alieetowh generally, ' Nikau Avenue, White's Line, Main; Eoad, and Pretoria Street. The. cleaning::of":Black. Crook and Moran's.Creek-was completed. The following streets had been dedicated:—Armitage,' Cooper, and Middlemarsb.. '. ;. •'.. ~ : .'
