NEW TRAIN SERVICE.

'.' Sir,—The. altered train-service for the Wairarapa has been in force now three days, and has thrown the whole district into a stato of chaos. For-somo*. time prior to tho alteration of tho service repeated.protests were made from this district, and finally a. large representative deputation waited on the Minister for Kailwavs and put the claims of the district to him in plain but forcible language, but.without avail. If it had heeii a 'deputation from a few avharf lumpers he would nave no doubt acceded to their request, but tho interests of tho farmer, the business man, and anyone with some stake in the country cannot expect fair consideration from this Government. :- ■. The wrong that is being dono to this district is very far reaching, following on a very bad year and in the busiest time of the season. It now means: that children attending .district high schools cannot continue to do so. The cream from country stations coming to-the Eketahuna butter. factory, formerly arriving at 3.33 p.m., now arrives at 9 p.ia.: (This means poor sample butter ami all-night factory work.) Settlers, coming by train to town to shop cannot do so now and get home in decent time. This means loss of business to tho towns. '■ Wo cannot now get our mail in-time to answer the same day. The Dominion used to,arrive here in i time for lunch, now it gets hero in time for tea. Goods from Wellington take three days to come instead of one. De-spite-what Mr. Millar says, this lino is a good paying lino ,and under the present retrenched conditions cannot cope with tho traffic. However, we are quite content to wait for the next general election.—l am, etc., . ',-' .-'•.-. . .:.--'. -. •■- , JCEJIO./ : December. 8. 1 : ... : --. . '■ . ■;:' . '
