Power boats.are increasing in numbers on the river, and a strong Motor Boat Club lias been formed. For this : club an event will bo placed on the prograromo.of the nost regatta. .Wanganui .East, determined not to be left behind in the' teaching,of swimming to school children, and it has been decided to build a small swimming- bath chiefly for instructional purposes, at the public school in that suburb. At, the meeting to consider the. subject, half the cost was subscribed by those present, 'and it-is expected that the rest will be collected in a-few days.. It is-probable that tho bath will be constructed during.the holidaj-s, and, if so, the children- will hare at lea«t hnlf a season's use of it this , year. ' .With reference to.the drowning of Mr. Edward Hackett in the ■ .Wanganui■■: Kiver :on Thursday night, it is a somewhat sad coincidence that two: of Mr. Hackett's.sisters were drowned 'in , the :samo river about twenty-six years ago. One of the. 1 girls happened to bo in a' bof.t .which' somehow was .upset,-.-and the Other sister':, went bravely to 'her assistance, with the result that both were, drowned.:,
