The trade is-eiporlencing a'Rood demand, and. mail advices show thatthe woollen trade ie experiencing a mild boom. note-that the: demand: is practically alone lor. flno Scotch tweeds, in placo of the worsted and choaper makes, which during tho past year had been making headway," to tho detriment of the. Scotch woollen trade. It "there is Toom for complaint,' 'it is that- tho great bnlk of tho demand comes from ' abroad. . Tho Home trade has boen. and is still, dragging, although, • as far as Glasgow and the West of Scotland are concerned, merchant houses have , already booked for spring. The snstaincd and appreci. able advance in wool and makers' prices duced merchant houses to place their full book-' ings earlier than usual. Prices average quito threepence per yard higher than last spring, and- tho belief is entertained, even by merchants themselves, that when , repeats come :to be sought, that-advance may bo doubled. ■ COLONIAL CONSIGNMENT DISTP.IBUTING . ■..-'■. ' . COMPANY. V. ■ - .' The chairman, Sir E. Montague Nelson, in moving tho adoption of the report and balancesheet at the annual mooting of shareholders.ol the Colonial Consignment Distributing Company, held in London on October 12, said that the capital and debenture stock .were tho same as last year, namely, £300,000 ■ and. £100,001) respectively} A comparison of the accounts for the yoar ended Juno 30, 1909, with the corresponding period of last year-was as follows:— The reserve account was' £M,OCO, as compared with £17,054; last year £6945 was transferred to this account. The bills payable wore £193,291, as compared with £94,539, being an increase of £99,382. Owing to l consignment!), this amount was exceptionally small ■ last year. Debts due to tho company wore £23,449, as compared with £42,936, being a decrease of £19,487. The profit and loss account was £12,895, as compared with £24,750, beini? a decrease of £11,855. This decline was due to the heavy'-stocks• at'the beginning of the year) with the result that they had had,to engage outside storage in which to place this stock. This' cost several thousand pounds. The .properties and assets .were valued at £207, 798, as compared with £211,377 last year, a decrease of £3579. During the year the lease of Nelson's Wharf'had expired. That .leaso had boon renewed, and they had purchased the freehold of a piece of land at a cost of £SCOO. They had written £8560 off the depreciations, and their investments were £35,235, as compared with £16,667 last year, being an increase of £18.569. Freights and charges in advanco were £10,338, as compared'with £6734, an-increaso of £3605,' and advances in shipment were £266,101, as compared f.rith £76,448, an increase of £183.653. The frozen meat trade had (tone through a period of almost unprecedented depression. Tho stocks had been enormous, but they had norr becomo depleted, and the supplies had been arrested, so that, at the moment there was an increase .in the' price of mutton and lamb. It the quantities came in as they did last year— when the increase: of meat importation was 40 por cent.—ho saw" no. reason why meat should not be cheap upon the market. ..-.,'. - Customs : revenue ' collected•" at '■ Wellington on Saturday amounted to £1298 : 9s. 3d.
