In the Canadian House of Commons Mr. Foster raised a debate upon the United States having' sevon warships on the Great Lakes in violation of the Treaty of 1817. Canada, said Mr. Foster, was; at the'mercy of this formidable force. The Prime Minister, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, deprecated discussion in view of the fact, that correspondence was now proceeding, but ad-' mitted that there was causo for! anxiety.
