A corporal of hussars stationed at Verdun borrowed largely Horn members o! his squadron, and fearing the consequences, put cyanide of potassium into a mess of soup. Eighty men narrowly escaped death. POISON-BY-POST INCIDENT: THE iIOTIVE. , I Vienna, -December 1. Lieutenant Hofrichtor's motive in attempting to poison staff officers—ono of whom died from partaking of a "nervo euro" which contained cyanide of potassium—was to secure hig own promotion, which a new staff appointment threatened.
