CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The statutorymeeting 'of the Charitable; Aid Beard was held yesterday. .There -were present: Messrs! 1 . Cohen, E.'C. Kirk, J. J. Devmei A. W: Hbgg,';W. H. Mbrroh.M. Kirk was. re-elected chairman for the:ensuing year.- In- returning.■'.thanks,-' Mr.' Kirk said that the position of members,was that if- tho. B;ll -now before Parliament: was passed, the:board would bo dissolved iu April, and members; wonld, then bo elected, by. the people instead of' by the, local bodies. The Wairarapa; and' HorOwhonna counties-would be.separated froni tho board—an end to which; the districts in question had striven -for some time past. He trusted that the Wellington Board /would survive: the severance atfd the loss of revehuo .entailed. •/.. :■;■■,■■■;'■'.•- : ".'.'■ "• Mr. A. ;W, Hogg, speaking as,a country mem. b'er,:said he thought it would bo found that, On the severance, of the . bodies, the. counties would deal with cases;brought, boforo them' in a proper manher.and ho'expressed his thanks for the manner-in which .country cases had been dealt-.with; by tho old board. : He also paid a tribute to the manner in which. the boiieyolont trustees dealt; with.'-.their- business, and tljo way .they kept down expenses. He was of: opinion- that the ■ separation would.': prove beneficial./ Mr; Hogg.also made some complimentary .remnrlcs about the; work done by the secretary of tho-institution, (Mr. Geo.: Willis) who ho characterised as the.right man,in the right: place.
