DISTRICT HOSPITAL BOARD.
.The newly-elected,. District 'Hospital Board held its ; statutory ; '.yesterday'. There; were present: Messrs'." J, Smith (in tho chair)V J: W. M'Ewan, J. J. Deviiie, Geo! Frost, and C.'J. Crawford. . ■,)-, '"'.';' "'. Mr. J; P.,Lul;o was re-elected to the position of chairman of tho board'.. 1 •'•..'.. Mr. J. W.-M'Ewan handed, in his resignation as a member of thclboard, at tho same time expressing regret at the fact that Mr. 11. C. Kirk liad .not jjeen re-elected., 'His ; (Mr. M'Ewan's). object in'tendering his resignation was in order that Mr. Kirk might be appointed to tho board in his place. Mr. Kirk had rendered many valuable Services to the board as treasurer for years past, and could be regarded as somewhat in tho light of an expert in Hospital Board matters. '■. .-.>'■■■• Tho chairman said he understood why Mr. M'Ewan was resigning, but'ho very-much regretted that it should bo necessary. The fact that the late'treasurer'had not been reappointed by any of tho local bodies was a distinct.loss to the board. . .'. .-■'' ■ Mr. C. J. Crawford asked if it was necessary that Mr. M'Ewan should resign' his seat,'.whichwould mean the disfranchising of Petono. ' Ho thought there would be no difficulty in getting Mr. Kirk's assistance in any financial matters that might crop up. Mr. Frost was of similar mind."
Mr. Devine pointed out that if Mr. M'Ewnn's resignation-was accepted the meeting would not have'a quorum. '.' ..>.' It was agreed to hold the matter over until the next meeting., ' ' ' : ■ ! "'
Mr. J. J. Devirio was elected to the position of treasurer of, the hoard, and Mr. Geo. Willis was re-elected secretary. It was decided that the ''meetings, of the board should bo held on the third Wednesday in every' month, > • The newly-elected board'will pay a visit of inspection to tho Otaki Hospital and Sanatorium on Saturday week. -..-.,. ;,
