Mrs. J P Luke, who opened it, inado a very pleasant littlo speech, and was prtMrtitcd with a bouqnet of roses There woro stalls, prettily decorated with flow ers, for tho salo of plain work, fancy work pioduce, flowers, and sweets, and a fmo Christmas tree, which was under tho caro of a real Pathoi Christmas A number of littlo ooys and cirls aotcd as flower-sellers In the oven UN* there were various competitions. , Mrs.: Rhodes briefly explained:why the meeting had been- called; and : commented' on the balance ; shcet presented. Owing to general financial: depression, -the: committee had -not. been able; sho said, to raise more-than half the amount that. was necessary to complete J'The Endowment" that i,t:Was still: hoped to establish, by means; of'which two'permanent fully-certificated nurses could be- supported to nurse the sick poor in - their own '.Home's.'.' It. had therefore:been deoided to hold a small re-,, siduary, or clearing sale, of., tho, goods :still left, over after -the fair,-, in ori about. March next. This, course had been generally agreed ' to by the stallholders,' and she hoped:, they would, push the. matter to a r brilliant- finish.
