FLOATING OBJECT OFF TERAWHITI
TUTANEKAI INVESTIGATES, Captain D. J. Watson, secretary of the MeW chant Service. Guild, I received a telephone message yesterday morning from: Mr. M'Menamen, of Terawhiti, stating that a floating object had beenseen in. the water' about 4 miles'off the shore,, and appeared to be a piece of-wreckage with a Jiving being clinging to it - Gaptarn Watson; communicated the! message-"to •Mr."6. AUport,. Secretary of the. Marino' Department/ The. Government steamer Tutanekai; had 'just left: for Oterangi .Bay, but she was; signalled fyom,- Beacon IJill, and acquainted with the particulars. On arrival, at Oterangi Bay, Captain Post went ashore and telephoned ,to the Marine Department .that ho had seen nothing on the. run, and. asked for the exact particulars of the messago. ~ . In the meantime the Marine Department hail received'a second,message from .Mr. .M'Menamen' stating that the' object had been 1 seen drifting towards Sinclair Head,; and Captain Post was. informed.-The mystery was clcared up when the Tutanekai arrived back in port before 6 p.m., Captain Post reporting that one of the buoys that had been - attached' to /the broken cable had'been, washed loose by/the sea and drifted with the current the Heads until it was recovered by the Tutanekai. ...
