RIVER BOARD ELECTION. A poll for the election of a member of the Hurt Elver Board to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. A. Peters, was held* yesterday and resulted as follows — / P. J. Pinny 112 votes 17. do J. Clere 51 votes Informal ... i T oto Majority for Mr. Pinny 91 votes . i ORDNANCE BATTALION PARADE. Tho three companies 'of the Orclnanco' Battalion paraded at tho Drill Hall, Petono, last night for inspection by Colonel Campbell, officer commmdmg the district., The total porado state was made up as follows—No 1 company W.N.A.V., 101 men under Captain Somerville and Lieutenants M'Kellar and Watson, No. 2 company (Petone Navals) 62 men under Captain Ellis and Lieutenant Price; No. 3 company (Electric Light Section), 33 men under Captain Hume and Lieutenant Ellas Tho Hutt and Petono Citizens' Band played the battalion to and from the station. At tho conclusion' of tho parade Colonel Campbell presented Sergeant Boss, of No. 1 company WJJ A.V, with a long-service medal for 17 years continuous service.
The next evening meeting of Petono Junior Athletio Club will be held on December 1, when the races'will bo a 50 yards dash and 880 yards handicap. , Members of tho Petone Navals have been invited by tho ex-Navals to take part in a progressive euchre tournament, to bo held at the Drill Hall next Thursday. At the Petono Police Court on Monday, before Mr. R. W. Short, J.P., a young man named Adolph Kitteror was fined 20s. for being drunk and disorderly. The Registrar-General has informed the Petone Borough Council that ho cannot see his way to appoint a registrar of marriages at Petone' at 'present. The council decided to write to Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P. for tho distriot, to see if anything can bo done in the matter. * *

Piper was. elected as. delegate to the .conference to be held in "Wellington on Wednesday to'dis-' otissihe proposed Licensing Bill. An address was delivered by ; Mr. Jacohsdn'. The musical part of :the programme comprised. items 'as follow:—Pianoforte 'sold, Miss B. Battesby; recitations',' Messrs;'' J. Delahunty and House; Scotch dance, ; Master Harold Donaldson; songs,' Mr./ Newton,' Mr. •'• W. On Saturday next the junior fours race of the Petono'Rowing Club;will be decided. The senior fours! which wore postponed last Saturday on account of the rough sea, will probably be rowed on ■'. the same day.
