A Pajiiatua Wedding. At tho Eoman Catholic Church, Pahiatua, yesterday morning, Mr. Terenco Shortt, oldest son of Mr. J. Shortt, of InvoTcargill, was married to Misii Margaret Ethel Wallace, second daughter of Mr. A. A Wallace, of Wanganui The bride wore a dress of cream cashmoro, and she was attonded by Miss B Wilson, who worS a frock of white embroidered muslin, and a bit of black and white chiffon. Tho bndo was gjven away by Mr. Millett, and Mr. W. Eccleton acted as best man. Tho ceremony was performed by the Eev. Father T. Mlionna Mr/ind Mrs Shortt afterwards left for Auckland and Eotorua, the bndo travelling in a neat navy bluo tailor-mado costume, and hat ot cream trimmed with pink roses. Mr. Shortt is a well-known sport, being a member of the cricket and football clubs, and he played for tho "Bush" representatives last season. At Homo in Hobson Street. Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Walter, Nathan gavo a delightful tea at her homo m Hobson btrcet, at which a number of guests were present to welcome the recently-returned travollers, Mrs. Jacob Joseph, Miss Joseph, Mrs Joseph Joseph, and Mrs F Nathan. Tea was served in ono room, where tho table was very simply and effectively decorated with pink sweet peas m glass vases, and in another, whero violets wero used for decoration, a skilled lady read tho fqTtunes of many interested inquirors Mrs. Nathan received in a frock of steel-coloured Bbantung, with braided trimming, and yoke and sleeves of tucked not Mrs Jacob Joseph woro a molo-coloured costumo with cream lace yoke and Bleeves and a scarf of crcpe-de soic in the same shade, embroidered with a design of pink rosea. With her mole-coloured costumo Miss Joseph woro a scarf of black crepe dc-soio handsomely embroidered with a floral design in pink, and" a hat to match. Mrs. F Natlnna flame-coloured frock hid an overdress of mousecoloured gossamer - , and a net yoke. Among other guests presents wore Mrs T. C Williams and Miss E Williams, Mrs Grace, Mrs. O'Connor, Mrs Tuckey, Mrs. Thorne-Georee, Mrs Barron, Mrs Hemes, Mrs. Barton, Mrs Gore, Mrs 'Marchbanks, Mrs Donmston, Mrs. IC Crawford, Mrs and Miss Duncan, Mrs lan Duncan, Miss Coates, Mrs. Eankme Brown, and Mrs. Baume
Misd Fanny Anderson, daughter of Mrs John Drummond, of Kilbirme, is returning to Now Zealand in January by tho new Euahinc. Miss Anderson has been at Homo for more than six yeaTs, and her many relatives and friends in the Wairarapa, as well as her own people in Wellington, are looking forward with much pleasure to seeing hor again The engagement is announced of Miss Ivy Gilmer, youngest daughter of Mr. John Gilmer, West Coast, to Mr H II Tompsett, manager of To Aro Honse Miss G}lrnor is a nieco of tho Hon. Hamilton Gilmer. Mis Bauchop arrived from tho South on Sunday, und is staying with hor son, Colonel Bauchop, at Kelburno. Mrs, W. Cruickshank, of Masterton, is visiting Wellington Mis. Wright, of Napior, returns to her homo to-day, after having spent two or three week 3 with her sister, Mrs (Dr.) Anderson, at Oriental Bay. ; Mrs. Hnlmo, of Blenheim, and her little son, camo over from Blenheim last week, and will spond some little time in Wellington. A floral fete is to be given at Masterton on Thursday in aid of the rebuilding fund of the Anglican Church, and it is expected that this will be a great success. Mi«s Ella Rothschild went to Chnstchurch I yesterday for a few weeks' holiday.

Yesterday afternoon at tho Hutt Miss Allport gave a "china" tea in honour of MifS Treadwell, .whose marriage to Dr. Begg takes place next month. Miss Muriel Wylie gave a pleasant littlo tea yesterday for a few friends, when among others tho following were present —Mrs and Miss Tewsloy, Mrs. Samuel, Miss Skerrett, Mrs Sidey, Mrs Macarthy, Mrs De la Mare, and Miss Ehodes. Mrs Wylie wore a frock ol grey crepe de chine with cream lace; Miss Wylie pmk silk with tcentro panel of embroidered filet net, and net yoke and sleeves, and Miss Ehodes wore white muslin with a pale blue belt.
Yesterday evening the members of the Young Women's Bible Class at St. Andrew's Presbytenan Ohuroh held a very pleasant littlo social as a farewell to Miss Curne, of Victoria College, who has completed her terms at the ( University, and is now returning to her homo. There were several musical items, and Miss Curne gave a reading A presentation was made to her on behalf of the class with which 6he ha 9 been for some tune connected The many fnends of Mr. and Mrs Henry Hadfield will be glad to 1 hear that the great surgeon, Sir Victor Horsley, gives every encouragement to tho belief that Mr Hadfield will make a complete recovery. A week after they arrived in England tMr Hadfield had to undergo a severe operation, whioh bad been performed most snecessfullj, and treatment with the X-rays was to follow Mrs. Hadfield had taken a houso at Blackhcath for six months.
