(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmcrston, November 23. The Chinoso Consul for tho Dominion, Mr.' Hwang, arrived hero yesterday, and was entertained at dinner by tho mombcrs of the Nana- ' ttatu Philosophical Society. Mr.' M. A. Eliott, ■ president of the society, occupied tho chair.' Councillor Haydon (representing the Borough ■ Council), Mr. J. M. Johnston (president of the Chamber of Commerce), and Mr. D. Biiick, M.P., were among,thoso present. The health of the guest was duly honoured. In the oven. ing the Consul gave a lectuio to a crowded audience at the Opera House on the "Social Life of China," which proved highly ing and instructive. At its conclusion Mr, Hwang was accorded a hearty vote of thanki, and in moving a vole of thanks to tho socielj , for arranging the lecture, Mr. J. M. Johnstoncxprcssed tho hope Umt it was one of u series • which,ho trusted Mr. Hwang would bo pre\ailcd upon to give here. , Theiv was a attendance of members nt the ordinary meeting of tho Manawatn Court of Foresters last night, Bro.
