The intended conference between tho strike delegates and the Premier of New South Wales, Mr. Wade, did not fcako place to-day. Mr.'W. M. Hughes, president' of tho'Waterside Workers' Union, rqcoivod a letter from Mr. Wade expressing disappointment at the fact that medical advice prevented 'hia seeing the delegates to-day, but fixing a meeting for to-morrow. Mr. W&do suggests that tic opinion of the miners in the different districts be taken as to whether they are ngroeable to accept his proposals for a conference hotween owners anil strikers, to opon simultaneously ,with the men returning to work. Mr. Wado ado's that a ballot on the question wonld give a. true indication of the opinions of tie' persons mo.it vitally concerned. A meeting of tho Northern colliery proprietors, Newcastle, accepted Mr. Wade's posal that they should cpnsont to meet the. men in conference simultaneously with tho resumption of work'. The proprietors add a proviso that' in tho event of the conforonca not arriving at a settlement, the whole of tho questions in. dispute bo referred for adjudication under the Industrial Disputes Act.
