The attention of the conference of the N,ew Zealand Employers' I'edoration, at its final sitting yesterday morning, was directed to certain remarkb of Mr. R. Semple, secretary of the Now Zealand Miners' Federation, as reported in tlio "Greymoutli Star" of November 16. Mr. Scmple's statement was that his federation would gi\e financial support-to the Nowcastle miners on strike, but would not otherwise interfere. The federation, however, would not allow Newcastle orders to bo filled in" New Zealand", or steameis to take enough coal from New Zealand to last tho round trip to Australia and back. The conference resolved, on the t motion of Mr. J. C. Thomson (Dunedin), seconded by Mr. E. G. Pilchcr (West Coast) :— "This federation strongly protests against the threat made by the secretary of tho New Zealand Miners' Federation that should a shipment of coal bo made to Npn'castlo tho miners will strike, and still more emphatically to the wnwarrantablo threat made by tho picsident of that federation, that tho foderation would not allow of steamers taking sufficient cool in New Zealand to last the round journey to Australia and .back; and that the attention of the Minister for Labour bo drawn to it by tho deputation to wait upon Ministers."
