SMOKING. IN TRAM-CARS.
-—Sir, —I ■'shall"-.take it as, a favour if I, may bo. permitted, through the medium of your paper,, to voice a protest a: growing ■ nuisauce in'this city. There seems to .bo' sC' tendency among ; certain classes , to indulge.' in smoking iii the .coiiipartroents of cars other than those, specially provided for the purpose. ''A. case came under my notice: recently where a lady, travelling in a crowded' car, had ■ two or three holes burned, in . the sleeve of her blouse, presumably from the" lighted end of' a cigarette being'. unwittingly placcd. I against it. Now, sir, .apart from tho terrible consequonces. vrhich .might possibly' lihvo resulted from such gross carelessness, judge for yourself the extreme annoyance which would be undoubtedly caused by such a discovery. I do not think I stand, alone in my. condemnation of this evil, but I do think that the sooner the offenders are made to respect the notices governing tho use of tobacco .in the cars, then the' better for ; the comfort and. convenience of. the Wellington - travelling public. Thanking you in anticipation,—l am etc., ' FEEQUENT; PASSENGER,; .
