.;■■; A' .meeting of the: Victoria, College- Council was held last evening, Mr. J. Graham presiding. Thero were also present: Messrs. C. Watson, E.- ; D.' Bell, •H, F. von Haast, W. "• H. Quick, A. R. Mock, C. Wilson; and H. Ostler. Tho financial'statement showed a credit balance of JEII7I 14s'. 2d..0n the general.account. Amounts of ~£2BOO and £500 are sot down as being on deposit. The standing grant from the Government, . JJ1875, as: included in, tho abovo balance. . Payments due are set down at .£l2Ol 18s'.\ ltd. Sinco the October statement'the following amounts had been received:—Building fund, J6UO 2s/6d.; Government: subsidy, .£333 6s. Bd.; rent of reserve, ...£2O 9s.' 9d.; foes, .£lO 195.: donation from .B. T. Turnbull, .£100; library deposit, ..£1 is.;. interest, £352. A sum of £703 15s. (id. had been promised as' a subscription towards the building fund, and of this X 577 9sl had'been received. The amount expended was .£822 4s. 7d. The laboratory account showed a credit' of £93 13s/ sd. ' - A letter was received from: the secretary of tho College Debating Society,' stating that J. M. The City Council wroto offering a number of shrubs/ etc., to be 'planted'' in tho ''.collego grounds/It was deoided to thank the .City Council for its offer, and that tho. treasurer arrange with the city's head gardener as to the planting. It was also resolved that if tho City .Council could carry .out the. planting the Collego Council would lneot'tbo'expense. It was decided to complete tho flooring of tho largo room in the basement of tho;scicnce hall at accost of £45. "'•'.■■■•'. ''"■ ' The Training Corps asked for the assistance of the council in obtaining leave: for those of its members who; aro civil/servants to enable them to attend at the annual camp in February next. A; recommendation that'the co-operation of tho council bo proffered was adopted. Mr. H. D. Skinner, was, appointed librarian at tho .college. :'. >'■■■■'.■■■'■ ■'-;■ The Finance Committee' reported : that an anonymous donation of XIOO had been made for tho purchase of physics apparatus of the most modern type, and recommended that the. Gov-'' erhment bo, asked to subsidise tho amount. The council expressed its gratitude for tho gift,'
