MAORI LAND CASE.
PEIVY COUNCIL GRANTS LEAVE TO APPEAL. (By Telcgraph.-Pres3 Assoclation.-Copyritht.) London, November 10. The Privy Council has granted' leave to appeal from the Native Appellate Court in the case of tho Tainni tribo against tho Ngati Tahinga. ' ' [The Native land case referred to involves that portion of the Te Akau Block which has recently been acquired by the Government and opened to settlement. The case was heard by the Court of Appeal in July, 1907. Mr. H. D. 8011, K.C., with him Mr. H. H. Ostler, appeared for some of the members of' tho Ngati Tahinga, Mr. Bloomficld (of Auckland) for others, while tho Tainuis were represented by Mr. C. B. Morrison and; Mr. Earl. The short point of tho case was whothor tho Piako Block, confiscated in 1865 by tho Government on account of the action of certain disloyal Nativo owners during the war, after which 91,660 acres wore rostorod to tho loyal owners, should be divided between the representatives of tho two tribes according to ancient; tribal boundaries, or whother by the confiscation and regrant those boundaries wore obliterated, and the partition should therefore be made by rule of-thumb.]
