WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY.
-At yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Presbytery, presided over by tile Jtov. Dr. Gibb, Moderator, a report was submitted, on the. matter of a site for, a manse at tie tipper Hntt. Tie .committee, ; which visited the place, recommended thai leave be . granted to ' the Upper; Hutt Church Committee to lease' (with a purchasing clause) an eighth of an acre beland the,"present church from tlie executor in the Brown Estate for ii sum .ddf,' JESO, to bo paid Jive, yeap hence, tlie< principal to boar interest at the rite of 6 per cent per -annum. In the event of the vendor not . agreeing to deal on those terms, it was recommended that, the quarter-acre under offer should ! be , purchased. Another recommendation was that tue Presbytery apply ,to ; the New. Century Fund 'Com. mittee lor a'grant of £300 for the purpose of building a. masse at . the Opper Hutt. The indnciion of the Rev. E. C. Tennent to the charge of Martinborough was arranged to take place ;&t 3 pjm on Thursday, December 9. The; Eev. G. K. Stowell was. appointed to preside at ; the' meeting of the Presbytery in that connection. Tho induction sermon will bo preached' by the iiev. B.;Hntson. The: Keys. M'Caw, of CJpper Hntt, and A. Thoiipsdn, of Carterton, are also to be pDesant'. The annual moetiog of the, >Vomen'B Hostel was fixed to take place on November 23, when the Presbytery will bo' represented by liesdames Gibbs, Gill, Gray, .and Picken. An extraordinary meeting of the Presbytery will be held on that date to' deal with the: call of the Eev. A. C. ;W. Standadge, of Naseby to Kelburne. .' ' Dr. E.'Kiri; Hvhio haia been appointed a missionary to; China, is; to' visit Wcliiiigton shortly to stir up some, interest in missionary work. He, will.preach at. St John's Church on the evenihg of November 28. , . During the 'meeting the Eev. Dr. Gibb gave a resume of the, work done at therecent meeting of the: General Assembly inChristchurch. An application from the congregation of the Kelborne:, charge for permission .to borrow ceotain moneys was received, and was replied to as. follows:—"That the Presbytery approves of the proposal of the Eelburne congregation to borrow i£7oft—£soo from the Advances to Settlers Department, and .£2OO from the New Century Fund, if the Administrator of the latter agrees." The moneys are to be demoted to paying off the old loan of iSSOO previously received from tho Now Century Fund;
