A suggestion on his part that the Rnaricial Debate ..should ;be '.limited to speeohes by Mr/ Massoy on .behalf of ■ the . Opposition and by himself on behalf of the Government:did not.meet with the approval of the' Leader -of the Opposition. Further pxo- .: gresa. was • then made in ' committee onthe Hospitals' and- Charitable Aid Bill: As soon' $3 the House, resumeu in the evening Mr. MasSey opened iho debate on the Budget with a speech nhich was ' generally ■ regarded as vigorous and brimful of points. The Hon. G. Fowlds replied to Mr. Massey at considerable length. Speeches by-Mr. Jas. Allen and tho Hon. J/ A. Millar were next made. Then came a surprise in;the shape of an amendment by Mr. T. E. Taylor to the effect that the ques-' tion of whether any more Crowu land ehonld ; : be sold should be referred to the people bj way of a referendum., Several members . on. ;tho Government side.; including Mr. Hogg, ' the ex- : Minister, intimated. their intention' of supporting the amendment. At 1.30 this morning :,the debate: was adjourned. ; ,
