November 15, 8.10 p.m.) ■ Singapore, November 15, A collision resulting in the loss of many lives, estimated at over one hundred, occurred in the Khio Strnits, between the inlands of Rhjo nnd Batam, near Singapore, Tho iron sorew steamer la Seyne, 2379 tons gross, built in 1870, nnd owned by the Hoss.ageries, Jlnritimes, collided with the ' steal screw steamer Onda, 5247 tons gross, built in 1835, and owned by the British India Steam Navigation • Company. The La Seyne sank in two minutes, preoipi* taking her living freight into waters infested with sharks. Tho Onda rescued Gl persons, and landed tho.n at Singapore, Many of them wore badly mauled by sharks, Among thoso who perished are the captain and -live officers of tho Lα Soyne, The deathroll of the La Seyuc's complement is estimated as under;— - European, Asiatic Passengers 7 . 50 Officers 6 — Crew ,„...,.,„„„ , — 3a 13 , 88 Total 101 [The La Seyne was 312.3 ft. long, 35ft. taoam, 29.7 ft. depth.
