Born in Victoria, he came at an early age to. New Zealand;, Nineteen years ago Mr. CornyflS' came to Wanganui as sub-editor of: the "Herald," later becoming editor of the Marton /'Mercury.". On the "Mercury" ceasing publication he rejoined the '.'Herald" staff, eventually ( trannferring ;to tho "Chronicle," remaining with that paper till a year or two ago,'when illness caused hie retirement. The misunderstanding beteeon the Gpnville .Tramway Board and the Borough Council over the electric power supply, threatens to become perennial. It is now arranged that a conference shall bo hold between the,, two bodies in order that tho terms 1 of the conncil's offer may be fully explained. Tho cquiicU is somewhat disturbed over the possibility of the Gonville Tramway Board seeking power to run cars within the borough limits so as to Connect with the council's'system, and has decided to call on: the member for the district to oppose any legislation that may be introduced: em- [ powering tho .board to do 60. ■ . _ ' : Matters in connection with the Agricultural Show nest week are assuming final shape, and th6ro js every prospect of the fixture being fully as successful'.as those of previous years. Suburban bodies which have sprung into existence here during the last two .or,three' years are without representation on the Har» bour Board or Hospital and Charitablo Aid Boards. The Castlccliff Town Board is.moving in the matter of endsavonring to have this remedied by securing representation on the bodies named, and intends drawing the Government's attention to the matter. . :

The Chamber of Commerce Council met in committee Inst night to discuss differential .railway..rates, and tho.road requirements- of this district. The decision has not been disolosed, bat will be reported to a hill meeting of the chamber in a few days' time, when it is probable energetic action Will be taken. ■ .
