College Street School,C Verne Jewell, I , and medal; Lionel Burton, 1 2; Reginald Thomson, 3. , An adjourned meeting.of the borough council was held last night. Present:—The Mayor (Mr. J. A, Nash), arid Councillors Haydon, Stubbs, M'Kenzie,. Hewitt, O'Eeilly, Palmer, Clausen, aid Mowlem. The mnch-discussed question of erecting a bridge over the Mana,\vatu River at Hokowhitu—to connect Palinerston with Fitzherbert East and the road to l'&hiatna—was again before the council. After discussion, it .was resolved, on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Councillor Palmer, that the deputation of Fitzherbert East settlers- be informed,-that the council is prepared to. assist in having the subsidy ofi£2s(Hl (previously promised py the Government) reinstated on the estimates, towards the erection of a bridge at /Hokowhitu, and will send two representatives'of' the council with the deputation to Wellington to wait upon the Minister for this purpose. It was decided to instruot the borough solicitor to proceedings, against \ a certain ■ ratepayer for expectorating on the : floor of the" library, and using abusive language to the librarian. On.the motiaa of Councillor. Palmer, chairman of the Opera House Committee, the use rif the Municipal Hall was gTanted to the Navy League, for ,a lecture.-. ■ ■ .•
