This was.-,tho first standard Marathon race held' in the North Island, and, such being: the;fact,'.it. aroused: a good deal of'interest. .The gathering was ; an undoubted success, and the-number, of naying patrons probably, exceeded that for any- -previous sports-held by the club. ■ Some Hundreds remained outside the Reserve, arid'peered over the' fence; and.to prevent thisit has been suggested: that another couple of.-feet should be added to' the'height of the boundary fence all rotind; ; His Excellency the Governor attended the sports,'and watched'the finish of the Marathon "Race. . ........ .-.■'.
