On the way to tho gaol tho sailors and smugglers fraternised, and tho captain of tho gunboat permitted a jollification. Tho smugglers, who remained sober, murdered the captain aud eighteen of tho gunboat's crow. The Tatuinbla was then scuttled by tho smugglers, who escaped.
