To-day it was Picton's turn to celebrate the jubilee of the province oi Marlborough, and tho people of tho seaport town did not adopt any half measures in doing so. Blooh«m liberally helped its neighbours also, the special trains com eying large numbers oi excursionists to tho "Liverpool of tho South." Glorious weather gave zest to the proceedings, and the town was gaily decorated with flags and thronged v,ith people. Tho programme opened with a marino cxourslon, m which several steamers and 30 oil launches took part, and guns wcro fired from tho Araokuta, and marino mines exploded. A children's picnic, an old idonlities dinner, and tho laying of the foundation stone of tho now fire brigade station were other items. The last-mentioned ceremony v,ai tho mam event of tho day, among the speakers being the .Mayors of 'Picton and Blenheim and Mr. J. Duncan. M.P.The Mayor of Picton good httmouredly took credit to his townsfolk,. because they had commemorated the jubilee in a "substantial" manner by erecting a fire brigade station, instead of spending all their money on decoration's, banquets, and fireworks,;.like Bknheihi.;.
