There is overv reason to commend tho action of the authorities wlio have set then facc3 against the practice of money collecting bj public school children (says a Melbourne paper) Tho child -who develops into a succors iuf beggar is a first-class nuisance —whatever the financial position of his parents At the same timo there is cvory reason whj children should bo encouraged to give, and if their gifts »tc worth anything they must entail something in tho way of sacrifice Tho generous child dovelops into a generoir, man or woman, and there is no denying tho fact that gßiifrosity breeds happiness It has been pro\ed scores oi times that a fen children dovotmg a httlo leisure daily to making things that everybody -wants, snch as bags, apion>i, teacloths, doyleys, baskets, bo\os,' and pincuihions, cm soil them with excellent financial results at the little fetes and bazaars that schoolgirls are such admirable hands at getting up A vorj little supervision by a ]udicious mothPT or aunt is nil that is required m tho nav of outside assistance The children soon learn what is saleable and what is not Incidental to that learning comes much useful knowledge of how to organise Tho value of moncj is also learned. No child loses, and ovoi-y child gains, in learning to thiuk for others and the little garden sales vprj often benefit the children who got it up as much as the children they get it up for
