E; Watson, headmaster, reported that the roll number.was 661, tho highest day's attendance! for the month 640, and the average attendance ei7.;. ; Mr. Watson , pointed .out that, With a -view- tpi-securing an increase'.in ..the' teaching staff it would be very desirable for parents to send. their children to, school as regularly., as; possible' up ..till the- Christma3 holidays. The annual examination ; of. the school would take place in the last two. weeks of the. present term and,■'.. on these, the promotionsin the standard : for> the nest year would be made. ...Ho suggested ...that tho school' sports should be made an annual fixture.' The question ,of assisting - the' Manawatu. Cricket Association, to secure a coach from England was referred to the headmaster, -who takes great interest in cricket, natters.'..- The Manawatu. Tennis Club wrote accepting terms for the lease of the: asphalt courts and undertaking . to. keep. them in proper.. order. 1 It was decided • to- close: the school on . Thursday and Friday for the Manawatu Show. Messrs.' Palmer and Swallow ~were appointed delegates to tlie. conference whfch ■is to discuss thevquegtiori of "forming: a! new., education district;' . ; At the annual meeting .of the' Wednesday Cricket Association; it was resolved to fall in with the suggestion of the Manawatu-Cricket Association that the rule preventing one player taking part in both ..Wednesday and Saturday fixtures should be rescinded. The secretary was instructed to/.write' the Feilding. Association inviting it to enter a team for the Wednesday competition, as this would create much : more'interest in-the games.' It , was decided ,to close the entries of teams for the Wednesday contests on November 6i and to begin tho championship games on November 17. Mr. J. T. Butler was re-elected secretary, and. a ; .hearty vote,of thanks was accorded him for past services., The matter of securing a coach was discussed at length, and it-was decided to.. : give the movement the Associa-. tion's'hearty support. .. ■•-,.. ■■■'-.. x Yesterday the Aokantere Creamery was taken over by" the Kairanga Dairy Company from Messrs. Nathan and Co., and will, in future be run asi part, of that the suppliers of Fitzherbert East having joined Kairanga Company, which is a cooperative ; concern. . Very heavy rain, fell quring the past two days,' and • once more railway traffic in tho Manawatu Gorge was blocked.', . To-day the weather has becomo fine again.Work on .the show grounds- is being' pushed along vigorously/ and everything promises to be-in readiness for the first day of "the biR event" (Wednesday). The official opening will be made by his Excellency ':he Governor, at noon.on Thursday, whena Parliamentary party will also be present.
