(From Oor Spccial BcDortor.) LOCAL BODIES' LOANS: A PROTEST. A: special meeting of the Hutt Council was held last the Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) presiding. The Mayor, in explaining the purpose of the meeting, stated that the council had oeim called , together to consider, the effect of that part of tho Now Zealand Guarantee "for Advances Bill which bears upon the loans to local-: bodies. He quoted tho present Local Bodies Loans Act, under Section 61 of which local bodies mayobtain loans: (1) At 4£ 'per cent, per annum' for a period of 26 years; (2) at 4 per cent, for 32 years; (3) at 3£ per cent, for 41 years. it : the expiration of tho period of-the loaa, if all.-, the • annual payments have been mo.de, the council s liability ceases without further payr°enP' There , was nothing payable' in ; respect of either principal or interest.
