The progress. of- the'Palmerston branch, of tho above firm is well shown in the following articles:— '' ■'■':'; ■ ■In March,' 1904,"an agent for the company was stationed in the Manawatu district, with Palmerston North as headquarters. As the business rapidly increased, it was' found absolutely necessary to. start saleyards in the district, and in October, 190 C, their first stock sale was held in: their new saleyards,' just then erected'iii Grey, Street, Palmerston . North. Since that time, saleyards have been estab. lished at every important stock centre in the Manawatu and Rangitikci districts,'and sales are how held by the Palmerston North branch of the'company, at tho following centres:— Palmerston-. North; FcHding, Marton,; Hunterville, Mangaweka, Jiaumai, and Taihape. Owing to.the vapidly-increasing business, it was found necessary to erect commodious and substantial brick offices and grain, seed, and merchandise stores' in Queen 'Street, also large, sheepskin, wool, and Lido stores ••■ in Grey ■Street. ■•■
The stock business of the company in the Manawatu and Ramjitikei districts is how a very large one, and they are in the best'possible' position to conduct their stock business successfully, Owing to their very large connection throughout : the wliole of New Zealand; with branches established in Hawke's. Bay, Waikato, Wanganui, Wairarapn, and other districts they,are in the. position .to. arrange for numbers.of buyers: from outside districts, to, attend their stock,sales with satisfactory results.to their clients.
