THE MONTHLY MEETING. A meeting of tho Land' Board was hold in the District Lands.' and Survey Office, Wellington, yesterday. .Present:.Mr. James. Mackenzie (Commissioner; of Crown Lands,, in tho chair), Messrs. J. Dawson, and H. T. Ell.ingham. . Applications for land were dealt with as follow:— . . Mr. A. J. Hoso to transfer Section 28, Horowhenua y.S.,'to Mr. Win. Taylor.—Approved. Mith regard to the applications for Section 6, Block. IX., Moumahaki, it was resolved. to admit Mr. Brethcrton's applications, Mr. Dawson dissenting,. . Sir.' Horusby attended with reference to tho P,rop°scd transfer of Section 7, Block VI., rifiiu (Garrington Settlement), from Mrs. Barbera Byers to her husband, Mr. John Byers.— Resolved to make a favourable recommendation in the .case. ■ • Bechcy applied to transfer Section U, Block 111., Hautapu Oliutu 1.F., to Mrs. S. A. F«rd, whose husband is the selector of the adjoining Section' 13. It was resolved to approve, subject to a satisfactory report from tho Crown Lands Ranger. The executors in the estate of the late T. U. M'Kcnzie_ applied to transfer'Section 1, Block 1.,.1e Kawau, 35 acres, to Mr. C. Reeve.— Approved.

Elynn applied to transfer Section 12, Kangataua V.S., .5; acres 3 roods 8 perches, to Mr. ti. Mr. F. E. Petherick's application to transfer the lease of Section 33, Nireaha V.S., was reconsidered. It .was resolved to further postP°m? matter till next meeting.' . The commissioner reported that tho Minister for Lands had declined to approve of the proposed .transfer of Section 13, Block X, MangaW"> from J. H. Waugh to H. G. Kitchfield. u. J. Small applied to transfer the license o f Section 3, Block VII,- Hunua, to W. Thorpe (600 acres). It was resolved to recommend tho transfer.
Alexander Sanson applied. to transfer tho lease of . Section 25, ■ Block IV, Umutoi (150 nores) to R. Schmidt, the holder'of Section 34, Block XII, Apifci. A roport was received from the Crown Lands Ranger, together with a revaluation of part Section 8, Block VI, Tiffin Carrington Settlement, 91, acres 3 roods .17 perches;'and it was resolved to approvo of the sectibii being reoffered as first-class land on; renewablo lease under the Land for Settlements Act,. 1908j at the late rental of £11 6s. • 6d. per annum, weighted with '.£57 Bs. for- improvements., Tho right boing reserved to cither pay this sum when, received to tho outgoing, tenant, or tho publio account, as tho commissioner directs.' TbV commissioner submitted a'-jschednlo ,of selectors who have been granted time in which to pay the arrears of rental due bythem. It was resolved to confirm the' action, taken .by him. • j - ' . Messrs. Williams and Kettle, agents for Mr. S. Smith, licensee of Section 12a, Block VI, Cerberus, 142 acrcs 1 rood 6 porches, and/which ho is-making freehold;'wrote asking that tho wholo of the amount advanced for grass seed, viz., ie9o, be not .demanded,' but that the freehold title bo 'issued on . payment of the amount falling due in March next; leaving the balance of .£6O as a liability on his other sections. It was. •resolved to decline tho request. ■ Mr. John Rudd, of ICarioi, applied under Section 307 of tho Land Act, 1958, for the'right of cutting and removing flax on Mr. J;-Campion's run No. 2, Ruapohu, etc., 31,860 acres, at a price, of 4s. per ton, or a lump , sum of XIQO for the whole. It was, resolved to decline tho request as the flax is needed for shelter in the meantime. ■■ It was resolved'to recommend : that Mr. t G. Bailow, who' is. now in occupation of Section 12, Block VIII, Mangaweka Township, 1 rood, bo granted a license to occupy the same from ■vear ,to- year under Section 124 (2a) of..the Land Act, 1908, at. a rental of XI; 10s. per annum, subject to the usual conditions, and that no compensations lie given for'improvements, the occupancy to determine on one month's notice. , • .' ; ;
The selector of Section S, Block XVI, Kaitieke 500 acres, E. E, Gould, applied' for permission to, reside at Raurimu, 2J miles.from the scctiodv his work in the Beads Department prevents him from living on'the section. It was resolved: to approve if .he lives on his tnrn freehold in Eaurimu. _ The Crown Lands Eanger reported • that E. G. Thompson was not residing on hie sections, 68, 69, and 70, Mangaweka fiortb; Villago Settlement, as his house was burnt out in July last. It was resolved to 1 give him six . months time in which to rebuild and reside. It was resolved to,declare the interest,of Mr. G. Jofferies, .lessee of part of reserve, Block 111, Kairanga, 3 acres 16 perches,' forfeited, in terms of the board's resolution of September 30. : ' ■ " R. E. Port applied to Bublet part 1 of Section. 47, Blocks 111, IV, VII, and VIII, Pohangina, area 622 acres 1 rood 35 perches, to Hugh Fraser, from March 7, 1909, to July 1; 1913.— Approved. . .. R. A. H.
