RAILWAY GRIEVANCES.
Sir,—The "'Minister's '-reply', 'to • Mr. Afitty 'on 'the above subject, reveals a .'more unsatisfactory state of aifairs than any railwayman had. ever previously dreamed of; The Minister'has said: "The papers had never been out of-'the genorsl - manager's olhce," and "thot-papers Irelating to 'the appeal have not been before me yet." I would now like Mr. Witty- to ask tho Minister what the papers were doing- in the general manager's, office, before the Minister had;seeri them?' Was it for the opinion -of an individual officer as to whether he should administer, the, "coup de grace" or- not?,'..Vl)'o we now understand that tho goneral manager, or his deputy, opens and deals with the correspondence?.,lf not, : how. did the.;general manager get access to these papers, seeing , that the board makes ' its " recommendations to- the Minister? Truly, have you said: ''WhatYearthly use the Appeal Board is under such circumstances it' is difficult to understand." I must admit that the' Minister's roply has created -in me a feeling of insecurity and distrust that .'lhave never previously! folt, and which I sincerely hope he will remove before 'I have .occasion to.go :beforo- the- board,', a -tribunal -in which we now have-the utmost confidence, and in which neither the general manager nor any other person has any right to intorfore,--! am, JUSTICE DENIED.
