It! is well known that there are hot yet enough Jerseys in New 'Zealand': tosupply-the demands 'of.dairy farmers, and every sign of. special progress among the stud breeders is therefore par-' ticularly welcome. This Jersey Herd -Book nad it 3 origin ; in • Christchurch,: where/; until about seyen years ago, it formed part'of the general hem book covering all breeds except Shorthorns, It no_ doubt served a good purposed, Its lopus was, however,, too. far ,away frbro' the centro of Jersey interests to-prove of, any great power in' stirring tip enthusiasm - .. among tho breeders, and the .' removal of .what .may ho termed its headquarters .to .Palmerston North when the Jersey Breeders'. -Association was formed, was a-good-, step. ; Since the formation, of that-association .the herd book has been'reissaed annually, and the pedigrees of the 1500 or more entries have been' gradually organised on * more thorough lines.
