Mr. Hardie Shaw, of Wellington, will judge tho -photographic -division :of. the . iianawatu show.:', , was a large, gathering in the municipal hall: this afternoon, when the prizes won in the losstty competition in connection .with Industries Week wero presented to the successful competitors. : Tho ; assemblage, included many, country visitors. Owing to .the absenco from town of Mr. J. M. Johnston, president of i the .Chamber of Commerce,- Captain Haydon .presided. Ho spoke' of the.good work done by the Industries Week' Committee, and tho hearty response from the' business men of the town, and hoped it would bo continued next year as enthusiastically, as 6n the 'first occasion;' The Mayor, Mr. J..A. Nash, in presenting tho prizes, said the citizens owed a debt of gratitude to the Industries Committeo for the result of tHeir. first attempt;, which was most satisfactory. '. Thoy were fortunate in securing such a capable judge as'lir.Thomsett, of "Wellington, who made the awards .in; connection with the window displays; also Mr. J; Evernon and Inspector Milne for. essays. Eight hundred essays had; been, sent in, entailing great work in making the seleotion. Tho citizens had subscribed liberally, enabling-them to allocate -5? prizes. ; He specially mentioned the splendid work done by Mr. J. M. Johnston, chairman; and Mr.'W. S. L. Dickson, secretary, the latter being presented with a 'gold;medals lion as a mark of appreciation. .. . .i-. ■:.'..-_-■ The'.committee of management of the mili-tary-tournament received definite intimation to-day that a'contingent from the i warships would take part in the competitions which will take place in Palmorston North on.November 8 and 9. The bluejackets always prove a great attraction, and the news that they will be prosont:i3 very welcome.. . _ ; , ; ■ ..- ..- The Governor will ofhcially open .the Manawatu Show at 12 o'clock oh the second day.; A row occurred in Main Street, near, the railway station, this afternoon. A man named Arthur Bbjthe had a leg broken, and was taken to the hospital. ■ Myer, his alleged assailant, was arrested on a charge: of assault and causing bodily harm./ A-third man named Power was arrested on a charge of causing a breach of the peace. They will be brought before the Court on Monday. There will be i a large number of criminal cases on Monday, .
