CHRISTCHURCH CATHEDRAL.
PROPOSED SYNOD HALL. Iliy Tclctrraph-Frcss AcaoclaLionJ , ChrUtohurch, October 22. The proposal; to erect a synod hall within tho precincts' of the Anglican ■: Cathedral was referred to by Bishop Julius at the meeting of 'the Dioccsan Synod yesterday afternobn. He stated that 6oino time ago. the- synod appointed a joint committee of the .Standing Committee, the Church Property Trustees, and the Cathedral Chapter to consider tho matter. It mot many times, imd'found that it was confronted with many difficulties, and'further consideration was eventually postponed until he should call tho committee together again. In the meantime he had been looking into ono of the groatcst difficulties, that of finding sufficient space within tho cathedral grounds, and with, the assistance of Mr. W. B. Mountfort, had prepared a ground plan, showing that it,was quite possible to buud a very fino hall that would add much to tho beauty and dignity of tho - cathedral, and would provido accommodation for all diocesan officers. Tho plan had Keen designed with. a view to tho ultimate-extension-of the cathcdral sixteen or twenty foot/in order to raako it squaro. Ho would urgo that , tho hall should bo opened by low , arches .from tho chapter house, similar to those that, added so much to the beauty of the. English cathedrals. Ho proposed to call the committee together again as soon as pos- ' siblo .in order'that the matter might como before the', next. session of synod. ~ Tho announcement was received, with, applause.
