Tho opening cere-' 1 mony was performed, by Mr. J. Duthie, who briefly wished the organisers of' (he bazaar j ever.v success in their, efforts. All tho stalls , bad been prettily arranged, and the afternoon \ tea-tables were set behind a pre'ty design of ; trellis work, The stallholders were as follow■ Plain stall, Mesdames M'Caw," Allen,. Birch, , and, Miss Virtue; fancy stall, Mesdames Steven- ; son, L«es, and Marshall; produce stall, Mrs. M'llvride; junior guild 6tall, Mrs. Brash, Miase6 Cummins, Williamson, Priost, and Birch; sweets ,stall,, Mrs. Moginio and Miss Speedy; flower stall, Misses M'Kee,' Allen (2), Ruby Birch, and Flora Macaskill; brantubs, Misses Lees and Grant; jumble stall, mombere of Young Men's' Bible-class; tea-rooms,' Mesr dames M'Dohald, Rodgers, and assistants. In the evening an entertainment \\;as provided by St.- John's Minstrels,' young ladies, from the Knox Church gymnasium, who gave exhibitions of club swinging and dumbbell.drill, and children, whose part was action songs, in which they had been drilled by Mr. and Mrs. Loos. . - JOTTINGS. ; The Rov. A. Thomson, of St. David's Church, Petono, lea,ves on Monday for Cliristchuroh, where he is to attend a meeting of tho Presbyterian General' Assembly. He will be away for about a fortnight. ~ At the Lower Hutt Court, before Messrs. Eliott, Forsaith, and. Cudby, J.P.'s, judgment for plaintiff by, default of defendant was given, in tho civil action, E.'J. Spilman (Mr. Ayson) v. Josiah Dawson, a claim for ,£8 3s. 10d., and costs .SI 3s. Cd. '' . , Good progress is being'made with, the work of oonnecting'up. subscribers for the proposed' local telephone exchango at Petone. It is expected , .that' operations ' will be completed within a fortnight or three'weeks' time. Before Messrs. G. Lundon, T. W. Caverhill, and S. R. Johnson, J.P.'s, at the Petone Police Comt jestcrday, -George, Fraser. was charged with ringing a false"\ hre : alarm. He was defended by' Sir. P, VI:, Jackson.,' The Bench found tbat there was ■ doubt about tho case, and it was dismissed. '.At. the same time Mt.'
