"■ The Thames Hauraki pump has again come to grief. One of the plunger rods situated about 180 feet down tho pines carried away last night. Work on the lower levql" has been discontinued, and the mine will be flooded to' tho 650 feet level.for three or four weeks. When all the connecting rods are recovered they will bo annealed and the metal softened. So far, 100 feet of rods have been hoisted out, and about 150 feet with the bucket remain in the nipcß. The treating of tho rods will be carried out as expeditiously as possible, but it is feared that three weeks will elapso before the work can.be resumed in the adjoining mines. The immediate, effect of this was to cause May .'Qneen;,'shares to drop from 4s. 6d. to 3p. 6d., but later saleß were made up to 3s. -10d.
