INotwithstanding tbo fact that Teryfow 6hips were in port on-Wedneaday there-.waea good at-tendance-of. sailors at tho.Missions.:to Seamen Institute,: where on all-day picnio was: held. All-- kinds ■of novel parlour gafnes Were indulgcd in, under the direction of Mr.'James •Moore, the missloner, the following winning prizes:—Mrs. Gardiner, M«S6t"s. F. Rose, A. .iu--bert (Arapawa) 3,- : J. ,S. Cumming (2), Ascot (Pateena), -E.'-Morton; H. Miller (3), R. Wright, -V?:: Beaumont,' -'J. Fenton,; Birmingham , (2), -Birtttt (2), Harrod, ahdßond. A. cdncqrf was.provided.-in-the evening by Mrsi James Gpdber-before,a crowded audience; Mr. Moore ocqup'iod the-chair'. The.followiiipr.con-" fribiited itoms. .to the propamme, 1 . which, .was arranged;•' by Sfiss', MTntyrei—Misses 'Farmer atd:Dodd6, Messrs. Dodds, Portebus, Gbudie," Farmer, and Israel. :,sfisses Farmer and'Dodds (piano) and Mr, Farmer (violin) played the accompaniments. Soveral popular choruses Were sung by the audience, aud an annising-conun-.drum--.'competition was won , by, sailors from, ships in portl, The picnic - priies, kindly donated by .Mrs...Aldoue, were presented to Hie winners by Mrs. M. A. -.Williams, in tho absence of the donor. Dnnng the evening the missioner'gave an-address on the temperance question, which resulted in six men taking the pledge. The lunch and tea for the picnic were provided by the choir, ' congrogation,\ and friends' of > tho mission, and -Mrs. Godber was responsible 'or' the light refreshments after tho concert. At the conclusion, hearty cheers were riven for tho hostess and performers,, and ftiT ail who assisted to make the dny such a pronounoed success...'-., .-'■',' .-'■...-• ;• .
