'-y ..-■': ' • Palmerstqri, October 14. ■ v Word has been received •here.'that the'delsgates'to the Imperial-Chamber of Commerce ■Conference,, recently held in' Sydney, and 'who are now paying a visit to New Zealand,. have Accepted the; invitation: of:' the' Palmerston Chamber; of Commerce :to'make/a' short' stay •in this' town, and ni'ake a brief inspection of tho district. .• The present proposal' is that the delegates should come here by' the first express "from Wellington, have lunch with the' •local chamber, and then be'motored through the' Kairanga and Rongotea districts. Thence they will proceed to Feilding, where they will be entertained by the. local Chamber, of .Commerce,'and then resume their journey by, the Auckland express. This 'arrangement will give , them an opportunity of seeing some of the most fertile land in the Dominion, which land at the present time is'looking extremely well. Mr. C. E. Rpbieson,. of the Tourist Department, has the arrangements 'of ; the ' tour in hand, but a meeting of the Palmerston, Chamber will be held' to-night to make local arrangements. ! . ••''■, . <The committee of St. Patrick's Ghurch here is- arranging to hold, a 6eries.of entertain-, raeuts.during show week in aid of the parishfunds.. ' . , A hookey match between Palmorston Old , Boys second team and. the Wanganui juniors was. played here yesterday afternoon on Miss Fraser's grounds. Splendid entries are coming, in; for ithe Manawatu Spring Show, especially in. cattle, sheep, and pigs, exhibits in all those classes cominp; from Waikato, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, and Wairarapa. There will be a particularly strong entry in Lincolns and Romneys, which are always very numerous." Entries of cattle and pigs promise , to be more: numerous than usual, and horses will be well represented. Very, good entries are also reported in the classes for dogs, especially in the terrier classes, the numerous valuable trophies attracting keen: competition from all ovor the North Island. This, is the only show in the North-Island where anything'like an.extcnsive display .of. machinery is m'ade, and this year sonie 40,000 feet of 'space will be occupied by this class.-of. exhibit. \Everything, therefore, points to a record' show. : The news which was road at the. stock 6ale here to-day -that frozen meat had gone up Id. per pound proved very gratifying. A keen demand for young cattle was experienced both at yesterday's and to-day's sules. - ■ At a meeting of tho Palmerston Hospital Board to-day the relieving officer reported that the number of cases for relief was. decreasing.
