PORT NICHOLSON YACHT CLUB.
:. A 'general.;ineeting of. the Port. Nicholson Yacht Club was held last evening, Dr. R. H. Makgili;presiding over, a fair, attendance. The. 1 principal business- of the. evening'was .to.;re-, ceivo; the annual report and balance^snect,' , which were "not ready, for presentation at the .annual'meeting held last week.- The follow-: ing is i summary '.'of the report:—\" During.the year eight.members resigned, and ten. new members were elected, making; the total membership as follow:—Severity-five ordinary iriembe'rs, 20 junior members, seven lady .members,'l(r hoh...life-members, arid 23 super-> numerary members. The Ocean Race Was a decided .success, and aroused a great'deal of interest.. The .weather.was beautifully fine and the run .outside, much- enjoyed., ..The.-most' proinirient;feature in the. season's racing was, .the; final, of the. Ladies' Race, nine boats entering. The prizes won during the season were piesented to the- winners at. a smoke concert held .in .Messrs. Scoffs room , ori May; 28.- The committee, .regrets .the' loss of the lorangi .arid Wairere,, the former having gone to Dunedin, and the latter' to' Nelson. The club,.however, ,has'benefited by the presence of Messrs. Hoggard ;'and Donne's, second-class yacht White Heather,' which has been brought'.down from Auckland, arid the third-class yachts Rawerie (Smith , and" Nathan) and Lizzy (Mr. .Ward); both being' locally, built; 'The comtnittee records with regret the "death 'of Mr. A. G. Johnston. The deceased gentleman was one of the founders of this club arid, up till quite ■recently, was an active'member and' one' wnose services were.also indispensable. The commit.tee.wishes to thank.Mr.", J; M'liean,; handicap-' per, for his very satisfactory services during the season. The committee also, wishes to.thank the following gentlemen'for trophies:—Dr. Makgili (commodore), Dr. Fell (rear commodore), Messrs. E. C. E. Mills (vice commodore), W. ■ Highet, R. Brewer, W; Bucholz. J. Fletcher, C H. Tiirnbiill, G.-'B. Richardson (of Blenheim), 'M. Laing, and to -Messrs. Cairns and Palmer, the hon. ftarfers, judges, timekeepers, etc.. for their ,'very satisfactory, services. . The "balariccjshe'et. showed o credit ;o'f 165..1td.; and assets exceed liabilities.by 41113 6s. 2d.'.. ■. . '■,■-■■■■

Mr. J. -Fletcher moved that the. Mark. Foy system of starting'races he. adopted-only so far as the fourth-class yachts are concerned.— Carried.., . ■' ' ■-•. . Mr. W. Highot moved that, the international rating rules bo.abolished until such 'time .as there, .will be sufficient con!petitions.—Carried. ..Mr. B.'
