Car was' ovmed and driven by Wm..A. Humphreys, and there wero also with him Lioutenant Matthews (Civil Service Rifles), Licutoriant ■ Guthrie(Canterbury • Highlanders), and Captain Salter (adjutant of ■ the' Second North Canterbnij Infantry Battalion). - - : . .The .car, was travelling.at a fair speed round a: cufve between v. the ' parts . bordering ': the lliccarton: Road, when the.: steering 1 g&ar went wrong,' with the result that the car collided" with::a tramway.pole on'the sido of the road Tho car bounded: off tho pole back on to tho road,' and 'collided with.the next polei and was overturned. Occupants wore thrown out on the roidway.
