HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Hutl County. Council met yesterday when there were present:—Messrs. M. W. Welch (chairman), J. Wakeham, W. Galloway, J. Whitemari, T. Edwards, M. J. Lynch. A tenant of the council's promises. in Wellington waited on the council to ask that his rental be not \ increased.—Chairman and the county's solicitor..to act.. The inspector of works, reported that certain slight damage which had been done to White's bridge'at Akatarawa by flood waters had been repaired. Work was'alsb in hand for repairs to the Silverstream'bridge ,-and the new road to Epuni hamlet was practically completed. The Wainui-o-mata Hill Road' was stated to he in very good, order. The cost of tho upkeep on account of the heavy traffic had been high, the amount for three months being &\% 13s. 7d. ' Instructions had been issued to curtail expenditure at once in view of the approaching■ dry 'weather. The 'Day's Bay-Lowry Bay Road -was in a very rough condition as a result of the broken rock recently put on. The inspector added that he had come to the conclusion that, the proposed road at Plimmerton could be carried out as suggested.—The report was adopted. ■ Messrs. Field, Luckiej and Toogood wrote in reference to,the adjustment with, the-Makara County Council, asking for a statement of • all rates outstanding on November 23, 1907.—1t was resolved . that - the information bo .supplied, subject to the solicitor advising such action. '
A communication was received 11 from Hayward's Land_ Company . stating that further river protective works' were required in the vicinity of the company's land.—No action ■: was taken in the-matter.' Councillor Galloway was appointed' as the council's delegate to confer with owners of land on the line of tho proposed road-from Pukorua to Plinimerton, and to arrange regarding the land required for the formation of the road. . . . '. ~---.'■ On ; behalf of the Public Trust Office, Messrs. Seaton and Sladden submitted plans of a section of road connecting Mr. Troupe's. road .at Plimmerton.—The plans were approved, subject to tho road being metalled- and in accordance with the council's by-laws. Prom tho Northern Land League came a request that the council should co-operate with them in tho Native land policy they are bringing before the authorities.—-It was decided' to reply stating that the council is in sympathy .with the objects of the league and will request their representatives in Parliament to support tho proposals.. . ■ -, ■
