HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

- -The Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening, when:there wero present: the Mayor .'Mr. E. P. Bunny), Councillors Baldwin, Macaskill,: Barlow, Hayes, Kemthorne, Pearce Mowbray, and Clere. .< Speaking, in regard to a matter arising out of the minutes, Councillor Clero said that he thought certain drainage connections had been authorised by the council to bo made free. He had got;this impression from conversation with the lato Mayor (Major T. W. MTlonald). The Town Clerk (Mr. P. R. Purser) vouched for the correctness of the minute recording that consideration of the matter of free connections be postponed. This explanation was accepted. ,-■'.- •. ■ • A complaint was received from Mr. W C Watson in regard to the continued neglect of the _ council s employees in regard to the sanitary arrangements at Eandwick Lodge, ihe engineer reported that this matter had been brought under the notice of the man responsible for the work, but owing to 6ome mishap the communication had not been Teceived by him. The matter was now receiving attention.

In regard to • the signing of the balancesheet which had been returned "tagged" by the Auditor-General, and had beonlound by the council not to agree with the report of the committee on the loan'expenditure, the Mayor stated .that he thought that they should, not'sign the balance-sheet-without a protest After- some,humorous discussion, in which it camo to,light .that. the;. The nas account showed receipts amounting to .£1598 and expenditure .totalling : .ei569. Tliis, with a debit balance on April 1 of .£4BO, left the account in debit to the amount of .£451.
